A lot has been written on the use, or better, abuse of Powerpoint™ in the classroom. There is no doubt that many (dare I say “most”?) educators abuse the program and also do not use it to its full potential. Although widely adopted in academia and education, the program is too often used like overheads or slides would have been ten years ago. It’s as if we have adopted a new technology but are still using it in the same old way – like trying to rewind a DVD player. In educational circles, admitting to the frequent use of Powerpoint™ and praising it as a powerful teaching tool usually results in puzzled frowns and uncomfortable silence. I believe that the faults of Powerpoint™ are entirely in the way it is used (and perhaps, in the gruesome “slide templates” it provides).
